In our study of the origins of patterned formations on sublimating and ablating bodies, our local linear stability analysis has uncovered (what appears to be) the first known physical mechanism of their formation via differential ablation in laminar flows. Led by Dr. Alberto (Alby) Padovan, a Python-based package for analyzing large-scale linear systems, such as derived from fluid dynamics simulations, has been released on github: https://github.com/albertopadovan/resolvent4py. SoftwareX and arXiv have more documentation.
